Flake Graphite (75%-80%,80%-85%,Above85%)
China has the largest flake graphite reserve in the world. As difference in region and formation time, ore coefficient is different. The more ore coefficient is, the mor successional mineralization is.
Flake Graphite Introduction:
. Flake graphite is a soft, slippery, grayish-black substance. It has a metallic luster and is opaque to light.
. Specific gravity of Flake graphite is 2.3.
. Flake graphite is a good conductor of heat and electricity.
. Although Flake graphite is a very stable allotrope of carbon but at a very high temperature it can be transformed into artificial diamond.
. Chemically, Flake graphite is slightly more reactive than diamond.
Flake graphite Application:
1.Refractory Materials 75%-80%
Traditional demand for Flake graphite is largely tied to the steel industry where it is used as a liner for ladles and crucibles, as a component in bricks which line furnaces (“refractories”), and as an agent to increase the carbon content of steel. In the automotive industry it is used in brake linings, gaskets and clutch materials. Flake graphite also has a myriad of other uses in batteries, lubricants, fire retardants, and reinforcements in plastics.
Flake graphite, preferably high-purity, coarse-flake grades, provides good oxidation and corrosion resistance and the orientation of the flakes improves structural strength in various carbon-based castable refractories like ramming and gunning mixes and shaped refractories such as resin-bonded magnesia-carbon (mag-carbon) brick. Flake graphite is also used in alumina-graphite continuous casting ware, zirconia-graphite refractories for continuous casting, and silicon carbide-graphite refractories
2. Conductive Materials
Batteries
The use of Flake graphite in batteries has been increasing in the last 30 years. Natural and synthetic Flake graphite are used to construct the anode of all major battery technologies. The lithium-ion battery utilizes roughly twice the amount of Flake graphite than lithium carbonate
3. Graphite Crucible and steel making 80%-85%
This end-use begins before 1900 with the Flake graphitecrucible used to hold molten metal; this is now a minor part of refractories. In the mid-1980s, the carbon-magnesite brick became important, and a bit later the alumina-graphite shape. Currently the order of importance is alumina-graphite shapes, carbon-magnesite brick, monolithics (gunning and ramming mixes), and then crucibles.
Flake graphite in this end use mostly goes into carbon raising in molten steel, although it can be used to lubricate the dies used to extrude hot steel. Supplying carbon raisers is very competitive, therefore subject to cut-throat pricing from alternatives such as synthetic Graphite, petroleum coke, and other forms of carbon. A carbon raiser is added to increase the carbon content of the steel to the specified level.
4.Lubricity Above 85%
A foundry facing mold wash is a water-based paint of amorphous or fine Flake graphite . Painting the inside of a mold with it and letting it dry leaves a fine Flake graphite coat that will ease separation of the object cast after the hot metal has cooled. Flake graphite lubricants are specialty items for use at very high or very low temperatures, as forging die lubricant, an antiseize agent, a gear lubricant for mining machinery, and to lubricate locks. Having low-grit Flake graphite , or even better no-grit Graphite Powder (ultra high purity), is highly desirable. It can be used as a dry Flake graphite , in water or oil, or as colloidal Flake graphite (a permanent suspension in a liquid)
5.Pencil Lead 80%-85%
Pencil lead is most commonly a mix of Flake graphite and clay It is chemically unrelated to the metal lead, whose ores had a similar appearance, hence the continuation of the name. Plumbago is another older term for Flake graphite used for drawing, typically as a lump of the mineral without a wood casing.
In addition to these application ,more extensive use of Flake graphite, Flake graphite can do brake pad, seal ring, friction plate, heat exchanger casting for glass production glass sheet, clay bricks
