Mech-Tec (TM)Clamp-On Thread Protectors
Mech-Tec clarmp-on thread protector effectively protects all API and equivalent threads.
The easy open-close protector is covered with tough,durable nitrile rubber (NBR) compound that attaches quickly to the pin end of the tubular. This material offers low resilience and provides excellent shock, abrasion and tear resistance for long, economical life.
A quick-fit-and-release design has made the Mech-Tec thread protector popular on rigs around the world. The quick-release locking handle simplifies installation and removal. A special tension screw adjuster allows precise adjustment of the ID of the thread. Once the thread protechor is clamped on the casing or tubing pin, the locking handle disappears inside the body.
Returning the Mech-Tec thread protector from the rig floor to the pipe rack is easily accomplished with a catch line. The locking handle is shaped like a hook when extended to the full open position and is simply hooked over the catch line and then slid sown toward the pipe rack. To avoid damage to the protector and allow for easy retrieval, a piece of soft line is ususlly attached at a convenient pick-up point near the bottom of the catch line.
